"INTIMACY DURING LOCKDOWN"
CALL TO WRITERS FOR SUBMISSIONS:

As a way to support literary and cultural exchange, the International Center for Writing and Translation at the University of California, Irvine, is soliciting writers from all over the world to participate in a project titled "Intimacy During Lockdown." We are interested in how you are experiencing intimate relationships with someone you are living with, dating or corresponding with — a lover, partner, child, parent, friend, colleague or animal. What is it like to be in a relationship while sheltering-in-place or otherwise limiting social/physical contact during the COVID-19 pandemic?

"Intimacy" can be defined in a wide variety of ways: as person-to-person (person-to-animal) contact within the home; as contact via digital platforms, letter-writing, telephone or FaceTime; and so on. There is even a sense of intimacy with nature that certain people have experienced during this time of isolation. We welcome your accounts, in whatever language, of this difficult, unique moment in your life.

Eight to ten essays/poems will be selected from the submissions. The selected writings will be translated into English (if not in English already) by students and faculty at the University of California and published in an online magazine. We may eventually be able to publish the magazine as a print volume as well.

Please send all submissions to icwt@uci.edu.

Submissions can be anywhere from 1 - 10 pages and
limited to one submission per person.

Due date: July 15, 2020
