The Critical East Asian Studies reading group is excited to host a special discussion on documentary ethics this Sunday 11/10, 3-5pm at HIB 137. Departing from Joshua Oppenheimer's powerful documentary "The Look of Silence" on the Indonesian mass killings of 1965-66, we will discuss representational strategies in regards to questions of power, ethics, violence, performance and spectacle. This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Comparative Literature and a UCLA-based UC multi-campus working group, "Archaeology of the Future: Chinese Oral History in the Digital Age." Please see the flyer attached. Graduate students from all departments are welcomed!
