Borders & Belonging co-sponsors the premiere screening of Los Infiltrados

Latin American Studies Center launches "Through a Diasporic Lens" with a premiere screening of LOS INFILTRADOS, a feature-length docudrama about the courage of DACA student activists set in an immigration detention center, co-produced and directed by Alex Rivera and Cristina Ibarra

The screening will take place Friday, November 15th at 4:30 p.m. in McCormick Theater 1070 Humanities Gateway, preceded by a reception at 4 p.m. in the Humanities Gateway patio (open to the public)

Mr. Rivera will take questions from the audience after the screening. Peruvian-American independent filmmaker Alex Rivera is one of the most bold storytellers and innovators with the use of digital technology in the transnational film scene today. He has won awards for his short animations, digital documentaries, such as the SIXTH SECTION (2003), and groundbreaking feature film, SLEEP DEALER (2008), a  "cyberpunk thriller" set in Mexico. LOS INFILTRADOS has already won an Audience Award and an Innovators Award in the NEXT section of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, and is in development as a scripted series by Blumhouse Television. Ms. Ibarra, who co-directed the film, is a Chicana border crosser and award-winning independent filmmaker with roots along the Texas/Mexico border. One of her previous documentaries, LAS MARTHAS, premiered on PBS Independent Lens in 2014.
