"Meditations on the Maghreb," a "Journée d'Étude" on North Africa with guests Lia Brozgal (UCLA) and Katarzyna Pieprzak (Williams College)

"Meditations on the Maghreb" brings two internationally renowned scholars of North Africa to the UC Irvine campus, Lia Brozgal, Professor of French and Francophone Studies at UCLA and Katarzyna Pieprzak, Professor of French at Williams College, to present papers along with two UC Irvine faculty, Laura Klein (PhD and Lecturer in French, UCI) and Virginie Rey (Faculty Affiliate, Anthropology, UCI). The one-day conference ("Journée d'Étude") will cover topics concerning the Algerian War, Moroccan "bidonvilles" (slums), museums in Tunisia, and the relation of the Maghreb to the Mediterranean sea.
