14th Biennial Conference of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry

The conference organizers would like to invite the submission of proposals for papers
and prearranged panels on any aspect of the study of Spanish and Latin American poetry
of the Renaissance and the Baroque. Discussion papers and workshops on theory,
pedagogy, translation, and other relevant topics are also welcome. In particular, we
welcome papers devoted to issues related to power and authority understood in a broad
sense. Topics may include (but are not limited to):

-Power and gender
-The rhetorical power of words
-The power of religious poetry
-The political power of poetic discourse
-Poetry and war, arms and letters
-Poetry and subjection
-Representation and power
-Power in epic vs. lyrical poetry
-Poetics of race
-The power of love lyric
-Metaphor and power
-Subaltern poetic voices

Paper proposals should be of about 250 words in length. Proposals for panels and other
special sessions could be of around 500 words in length. Please include name, rank,
affiliation, title and abstract for each presenter. For panels, the titles and abstracts of each
of the papers. Kindly send proposals (as a Word attachment) and questions to:

The deadline for receiving proposals is April 15, 2019. Participants will be notified of
acceptance by the end of April or beginning of May.
