UCI Giving Day

 Office of the Dean     Apr 24 2019 | 6:00 AM - 11:30 PM Campus-wide

On Wednesday, April 24, the UCI community will come together for a momentous day of participation, pride and collective impact. Click here to learn how you can support important student programs, campus resources and academic excellence at UCI on April 24th!

The School of Humanities offers the power to bring people together, to write persuasively, and to think critically. Together, these generate the ideas that matter. We are concentrating our fundraising efforts in four areas this year.

Gifts to the Dean’s Excellence Fund on Giving Day will help us lead interdisciplinary conversations that focus on deepening our understanding of humanity’s grand challenges. Our recent forum on climate change is a great example of how impactful these conversations can be. Scientists, journalists and policy experts in the field came together to discuss climate change. 600 people attended the conference; there were more than 20 Million impressions of the hashtag #UCIClimate; and 5 media outlets covered the event, including C-Span.

This summer, the UCI Shakespeare Center will welcome local teachers to an afternoon of learning followed by New Swan Shakespeare Festival’s performance of The Merchant of Venice. Your contribution helps provide books, theater tickets, and sustenance for teachers from Irvine, Santa Ana, Tustin, and surrounding areas. The Educators Fund also brings teachers and students to campus during the school year to see the First Folio, celebrate Shakespeare’s Birthday in style, and participate in other festive and informative programs. All gifts made in support of the Shakespeare Center on Giving Day will be matched dollar for dollar by the Center’s director, Prof. Julia Lupton, up to the first $1,000.

Did you know that the Department of Asian American Studies recently launched the first 4+1 dual-degree program in the country? That means students can complete a B.A. and an M.A. in five years! Your donation to the Friends of Asian American Studies on Giving Day will support 4+1 scholarships, fund student travel grants to professional conferences, provide internships and help establish the first endowment for the Department of Asian American Studies.

UCI’s Department of Art History, in collaboration with Friends of Art History, is raising scholarships and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate student research and travel, both domestically and internationally. Your gift enables Art History students to gain unique insights and perspectives on their research, share their findings with fellow academics at conferences and symposia, and establish important connections with mentors and peers. Our 2019 Giving Day funding goal is to raise $12,000. Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donation, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 in support of our Art History students.
