Deux Femmes on the Edge of the Revolution: A Discussion with France-Luce Benson

France-Luce Benson is a Haitian-American playwright currently based in Los Angeles.  She will be discussing her recent play about the role of women in the Haitian Revolution, Deux Femmes on the Edge of the Révolution.  With a foot on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, she speaks about the experience of Black women in the theater world.

France-Luce Benson was named “Someone to Watch” in 2019 by American Theatre magazine. Additional honors include: Dramatist Guild Fellow, Zoetrope Screenplay Competition – Grand Prize, Miranda Family Foundation Grant recipient, Samuel French OOB Festival Winner, Bay Area Playwrights Festival finalist, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation New Play Commission, NNPN Best Play,  Princess Grace Award runner up, and three time Kilroy List Honorable Mention. Residencies include Djerassi, the Camargo Foundation in France, and Instituto Sacatar in Bahia, Brazil. Her plays have had productions and workshops at Ensemble Studio Theatre New York where she is a company member, Crossroads Theatre, The Playwrights Center, Billy Holiday Theatre, The New Black Fest at The Lark, City Theatre Miami, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Loyola Marymount University, and Global Black Voices in London. Publications: Sam French and Routledge Press. She is the Community Engagement Coordinator at The Fountain Theatre.
