The
Visual Studies Graduate Student Association formed in the spring of 1997
to support
the continued growth of the Ph.D.
Program in Visual Studies offered jointly by the departments of Art History and Film & Media
Studies at UC
Irvine.
Representing diverse academic interests and backgrounds, the VSGSA provides
a forum for current graduate students and recent Ph.D.s to address administrative
issues and share in scholarly research and pedagogical development. Upcoming
events for Winter/Spring 2007 include Works-in-Progress (a mini-conference
for the presentation of student work), a Professionalization Workshop,
and a roundtable discussion with local scholars on the nature and future
of Visual Studies.
The VSGSA also provides support for our annual student conference (organized by the second-year students) and our interdisciplinary peer-reviewed
journal Octopus.
Finally, the VSGSA is looking to build relations with other grad programs in visual studies, art history, film and media studies, critical studies, and other related fields in Southern California and across the UC system. As part of that endeavor, we have compiled links to these grad student associations or programs:
