From 325,000 archival slides to a rapidly growing collection of digital images, the Visual Resources Collection provides access to a variety of images resources and associated services: 35mm slide collection, the Digital Image Archive, Libraries licensed resources, UC Shared Images in ARTstor, Insight community collections, and Web sites. Patrons are encouraged to save time and scarce resources by using existing image collections first.
Digital technologies have created an unprecedented explosion of online image resources and opportunities to share digital images beyond the physical boundaries of photographic archives. Dynamic image resources are growing rapidly and if the images educational constituencies need are not in these services now, they probably soon will be.
UCI image users are encouraged to help the VRC build shared image collections useful for the educational purposes of the campus and the entire UC system. Digital images can be produced from the existing slide collection or a variety of graphic materials (photographs, books, journals, ephemera, etc.) by completing a VRC Image Request Form. Any images requested through the VRC have the potential to be shared through DIA (UCI campus) or ARTstor (UC systemwide).
