Do I need to take the GRE to apply?

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General test scores are required from UCI Graduate Division. There is no minimum required GRE score. The results of this test represent only one of many factors reviewed in the admission decision by the Visual Studies Graduate Committee. Can I send an unofficial copy of the transcripts from previous institutions?

No. Visual Studies requires one official original transcript from each post-secondary institution attended.  Please request that your institution(s) mail your transcript(s) directly to:

Does the program require a writing sample?

Yes. The writing sample should demonstrate the applicant’s capacity for scholarly research in his or her main area of interest and should not exceed 20 pages. Please submit your writing sample (email submission) to: vsadmissions@uci.edu.

What is the normative time to degree?

5-6 years, with a maximum time of degree of 7 years

It is possible to study part-time?

No, our program requires students to enroll full-time.

Does the Program offer financial aid?

Historically, graduate students are typically admitted with a multiyear financial support package that provides fellowship and teaching assistantship support in addition to in-state fees, tuition and health insurance.
