Please mark your calendars for a screening of, and talk about, Redes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0028165/) with particular attention to its film music, by UC Riverside professor, Leonora Saavedra (http://music.ucr.edu/faculty/saavedra).

This 1936 film (65 min) was directed by Fred Zinnemann and Emilio Gómez Muriel, and shot by Paul Strand. The film music (focus of the talk by Prof Saavedra, chair of the music dept at UC Riverside) was composed by Silvestre Revueltas, an important Mexican composer of the first half of the 20th century.

The screening and talk are open and free to the public. This event is presented by the Department of Film & Media Studies, and co-sponsored by the Department of Music and the Latin-American Studies Center, at UC Irvine. This event is held in conjunction with Film & Media Studies 146: Film Music. Seating is limited.
