RECEIVED FIRST DEGREE ELSEWHERE:

• You must meet the minimum required prerequisites, as stated below, in order to apply for a second B.A. in that field.

• Completion of the minimum required prerequisites does NOT guarantee admission.

• You must apply during the regular UC application filing period, i.e. November 1-30 for admission to the following fall quarter.

• It is expected, in most fields, that you are prepared to enter courses at the junior level.

Lower-division major courses required for acceptance as a second B.A.

Applicants in all majors must have completed:

  • General education including one year of lower-division composition
  • Humanities Core Course alternative *
  • One year of college-level language other than English. A second year in the same language must be completed for graduation
  • Lower-division major requirements:

African American Studies: See above.

Art History: See above plus one- year of western art history or one-year of Asian art history.

Asian American Studies: See above.

Chinese Studies : See above plus completion of two years of college-level Chinese.

Classical Civilization: See above plus completion of one year of college-level classical Greek or Latin.

Classics: See above plus completion of one year of college-level classical Greek or Latin.

Comparative Literature: See above plus two semester/three quarter courses chosen from: American literature, British literature, world literature, dramatic literature, poetry, fiction/novel, area national literature (i.e. other than American or British).

East Asian Cultures: See above plus two years of college-level Mandarin Chinese, college-level Japanese or college-level Korean.

English: See above plus two semester/three quarter courses chosen from: American literature, British literature, world literature, dramatic literature, poetry, fiction/novel, area national literature (i.e. other than American or British).

European Studies: See above plus two years of college-level French, German, Classical Greek, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish; one European history course.

Film & Media Studies: See above.

French: See above plus completion of two years of college-level French.

German Studies: See above plus completion of two years of college-level German.

Global Cultures: See above plus one year survey of world history.

History: See above plus at least two courses from two different areas from American, Middle East, Western Civilization, Asian, World or Latin American history.

Japanese Language and Literature : See above plus completion of two years of college-level Japanese.

Korean Literature and Culture: See above plus completion of two years of college-level Korean.

Latin: See above plus completion of one year of college-level Latin.

Literary Journalism: See above plus one course in American, British or World literature.

Philosophy: See above plus three quarter/two semester courses from history of ancient, modern, medieval or contemporary philosophy.

Religious Studies: See above plus one year of world religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Asian, Comparative Religions).

Spanish: See above plus completion of two years of college-level Spanish.

Women’s Studies: See above.

 

* Humanities Core course alternative:

Total of six quarter/4 semester courses; at least one course in each area:

  • Composition
  • British literature , American literature, world literature, poetry, dramatic literature, fiction/novel, area national literature (i.e. other than British or American)
  • U.S., western or world history
  • Introductory ancient, modern, or contemporary philosophy; ethics; introduction to human nature, law and society, philosophy and religion, problems of philosophy
