In addition to completing UCI general education
requirements and courses for the major, Humanities majors also
need to complete the school requirements listed below, also described
in the UCI General Catalogue (http://www.editor.uci.edu/catalogue/hum/hum.1.htm#gen33):
Satisfactory completion of the following, which must be taken for letter
grades: Humanities 1A-B-C, taken in the freshman year; two years of work in a single acceptable foreign language, either modern or classical (through 2C), or equivalent competence*; quarterly consultation with
an assigned advisor and the advisor's written approval for the program
of study decided upon.
*Freshmen entering Fall 2007 and students who choose to follow Fall 2007 degree requirements must earn a grade of C or better in the sixth quarter in order to fulfill the School's foreign language requirement.
Transfer students in all majors in the School of Humanities may substitute for the Humanities Core Course a set of lower-division
courses in English composition, literature, history, and philosophy, as described
at: http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/requirements/core_alt.html.
Students who declare a major in the School of Humanities after their freshman
year may also be advised to take the core substitution courses. They should consult
an academic counselor in Humanities Undergraduate Study.
