Schedule Planning
Some useful online resources to help in planning your schedule:
Unsure about which classes you need to take?
- Start with your personalized degree audit, available in Student Access.
- Check the requirements for your major using one of our online guides, or the UCI General Catalogue.
- Don’t know which classes count toward Breadth/General Education? You can search UCI’s online Schedule of Classes by a specific Breadth/General Education category, or find the full list of approved courses for 2009-2010 here.
Things to consider when choosing classes next quarter:
Unless you are enrolled in Humanities Core, remember that you must take at least 1 class each quarter toward your declared major.
- What topics are you really passionate about?
For Humanities courses, check the online course descriptions. For non-Humanities courses, check the UCI General Catalogue or the department website.
- How much reading and writing is required for each course?
(For example, it is often not a good idea to take four upper-division literature courses at once.) Check the online course descriptions for reading lists, check course websites from previous quarters if the course has been offered before, or email the instructor to see if a syllabus is available.
- Do you want to have a balance or diversity of topics represented in your schedule?
For example, you might consider taking one course for General Education, one course for your major and one course for a minor you are considering.
4-year Course Plans
Even if your department/major does not require you to make a 4-year course plan, it can be a good idea to help make sure you don’t miss any important classes. Click here to download a blank 4-year Course Plan form.
