Puerto Rico after María: An Update

A Public Presentation by
PROF. JULIO TORRES

On September 20th, 2017, hurricane María, one of the most intense Atlantic hurricanes on record hit Puerto Rico, leaving an unprecedented path of destruction in its wake. In this talk, Prof. Torres will show some examples of the devastation on the mainland and on the other smaller islands that make up the territory of Puerto Rico. He will also discuss how the colonial status of Puerto Rico, the relationship between the U.S. and local Puerto Rican politicians have impacted the recovery efforts six months after María. Finally, the talk will end with some data and predictions on the future of Puerto Rico.
