Please join us on Friday, December 1, 2017, 4-5 pm in UC Irvine's Humanities Gateway (HG) 1341 for a talk by Prof. Mateo Farzaneh (Northeastern Illionois University, Chicago) titled "Defenders of the Realm: Iran in Iraq and Syria".

Mateo Mohammad Farzaneh is an associate professor of history at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. He primarily researches the entangled history of religion with politics in Iran. His book, The Iranian Constitutional Revolution and the Clerical Leadership of Khurasani (Syracuse University Press, 2015) won the History Honor Society Best First Book Award in 2016.  Iranian Women and Gender in the Iran-Iraq War is Farzaneh’s next book that will be out in 2020.
