Amy DePaul is an award-winning writer whose articles have appeared on numerous websites and in major metropolitan newspapers, including the Washington Post and others. In 2011, her reporting on a teacher accused of violating a student’s First Amendment rights won a special citation from the Education Writers Association, and she received a print media award for coverage of federal social policy from the Council on Contemporary Families in 2008. She recently began writing about public health issues in Orange County for Voiceofoc.org and is starting a website devoted to interviews and interviewing (InterviewNerd.com). She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University and a master’s degree in English literature from UCI. She has taught Reporting for Literary Journalism, a required course for all LJ majors at UCI, since 2004. She also teaches at California State University Fullerton and was an adjunct professor at Miami University of Ohio

Patricia Pierson is the associate director of UCI's Literary Journalism Program.  She holds a B.A. in English from Trinity College, an M.A. in English Literature from Loyola Marymount University, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from UC Irvine.  Her research and teaching interests include writing and rhetoric, narrative and narrative theory, critical theory, and collections.
