Possible Career Opportunities
While it differs from an applied journalism major that focuses primarily on newspaper writing, the major in Literary Journalism is excellent preparation for students planning to enter graduate programs in journalism, as well as for those interested in the many careers requiring sophisticated writing skills.
Those students with a particular interest in writing and editing for magazines would find the Literary Journalism major particularly useful. So would those who aspire to write nonfiction books.
From time to time, we will post specific career opportunity information about such events as workshops and recruiter visits.

News Clerk: Los Angeles Times Orange County Edition
The Orange County Edition has an immediate opening for a full-time News Clerk in the Costa Mesa office.
Applicants must be team players, organized and self-starting. They should have good communication and people skills, since they will deal with readers and other members of the public. They should be smart, flexible, adaptive, inquisitive, eager to please and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. They should possess strong computer skills.
Preference will be given to individuals with journalistic ambition, as the news clerk does research and some basic writing, such as compiling weekly listings and holiday closure boxes. Previous holders of this post have been granted some schedule flexibility, particularly to pursue academic studies; in turn, candidates should know that there will be weekend and some night duties.

They must be able to move quickly, lift and transport light objects and handle some minimal clerical duties, including: copying and distributing budgets and proofs; picking up and distributing postal packages and sorting mail to mailboxes; answering department phones; sorting and distributing faxes; responding to e-mails; keeping printers supplied with paper and toner cartridges installed and in full supply; checking Audex messages; and maintaining back copies of the paper.
