Stephanie Weldy

PhotoStephanie Weldy is a fourth-year Literary Journalism major who comes from an obscure Mojave Desert town. Stephanie’s interest in writing stems from her childhood days when her mother used to force her to read excessively, and also from when as an adolescent she began dabbling in writing short stories. Another huge influence for Stephanie was seeing her father every morning read the Los Angeles Times, a habit she soon picked up.

Stephanie was an English major at first and fell deeply in love with short stories such as Joyce Carol Oates’s “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been,” Kate Chopin’s “The Storm,” and J.D. Salinger’s “A Perfect Day For Bananafish” among many others. Stephanie decided to pursue journalism, however, because of the close relationship it required her to have with a pencil and a notepad.

Stephanie has worked with and published multiple times with The Orange County Register, Fountain Valley’s Patch Media, and UCI’s New University. Stephanie’s hope is to one day work for the Los Angeles Times and to eventually publish a book of short stories.
