The story behind the story: "Chasing War" is the beginning of my war narrative, a far from finished recollection of my twenty-four months in Iraq. These are the events leading up to my first deployment to Iraq with the Army's 101st Airborne, and follow my mostly naive perspective from the ground during the invasion. As t.v. and newspapers documented and glorified the war story, my infantry unit puzzlingly escaped combat at every turn. "Chasing War" is about my platoon's desire to get "into the fight" and my own conflicting desire to avoid it.
