The first meeting of this chapter was held at Georgetown University in April 2007. A message was read from the current president, Dr. Nasrin Rahimieh. The mailing list was created from a list of different Iranian cultural organizations and individuals interested in Iranian activities. Non-Iranian organizations that had interest in Iranian studies and culture; i.e. Middle East Institute, Asia Society, Woodrow Wilson Center, and many more were invited as well.

The students of Persian Language Program and Iranian Cultural Club, both of Georgetown University, plus the students of the Center for Persian Studies at the University of Maryland were the hosts. The participants of this program were 120 people. Dr. Karimi-Hakkak the Director of the Center for Persian Studies at the University of Maryland was the speaker of the first gathering. He talked about the history of ISIS and some of its major achievements in recent years and then gave a magnificent and passionate talk on the theme of “Spring and Nature in Persian Poetry.” This was followed by a musical performance on Santur by Ms. Roya Bahrami, a resident of Washington DC. The formal part was followed by a reception. A book display was set-up in the lobby by Mage Publishers.
The program which was conducted in English was taped by Voice of America Television News program and was later broadcast. An interview with Ms Khademi about the program was also carried out a month after the program. Radio Zamaneh also interviewed Ms. Khademi.
