School of Humanities Humanities Internship Program |

From an intern working at My
Hero Project:
I applied for the
Humanities Internship Program because I
used to think that jobs available to humanities majors were limited,
and I was
worried I wouldn’t be able to find a job. The
process of matching me with a company was somewhat
rocky; the first
company fell through, but I was finally placed with a non-profit
organization
called The MY HERO Project. At first I
was skeptical about what I, as a literary journalism major, could bring
to a
completely web-based educational project. As
I started to work, I was shocked at how much I relied
on my
humanities skills. The MY HERO Project
is a web project that celebrates the best of humanity, in which people
from
around the world submit media about their heroes. Through
working with them, I have learned about and met so many amazing,
inspirational
people. Every day that I work there and
read or write stories about people working towards positive change is
eye-opening and uplifting. My experience at The
MY
HERO Project has been exceptionally
rewarding, and has helped me learn what I want for my future. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed, and
they are extremely flexible when it comes to managing work around my
school
schedule. My internship has been the
best experience working that I could have asked for, and I highly
recommend the
Humanities Internship Program to any humanities student looking for a
job or
internship. |
