From an intern working at the City of Irvine:

Working for the City of Irvine Public Information Office has been a great experience. I have had the chance to learn about the inner workings of a city, while getting experience seeing projects from beginning to end.

As the main editor for the City’s monthly internal newsletter/magazine, the GrapeVine, I am responsible for collecting articles from the City employees, developing a production schedule, and reminding 1000+ employees of deadlines and procedures. I edit and write articles, layout the magazine, and coordinate hard copy and on-line distribution. Strong writing, editing and organizational skills and advanced planning are required to meet production deadlines.

In addition to editing and managing the production of the GrapeVine, I am also in charge of collecting daily press clips, which means going through newspapers in the morning to collect any articles having to do with the City. I also manage the City's media contact list, which includes getting the contact information of any media that the City may want to send press releases, and compiling them into one complete list.

I have really enjoyed not only the job itself, but also getting to know the other employees at the City. Although I am the youngest in the office, they have been nothing but kind and approachable in helping me adjust to the environment of the working world. I have been very grateful for this experience, and if I weren't graduating, I'd definitely keep with this job next year!
