From  interns working at Carson Kolb Healthcare Group:

My internship at Carson Kolb Healthcare Group has not only been beneficial in allowing me to gain insight into the working world, but it has also proven to be a worthwhile experience. Prior to my internship, I was unaccustomed to working in a business environment and interacting with high-level professionals. However, after being immersed into the field of recruitment, I have gained knowledge of the tasks and responsibilities that occur in a physician recruitment firm, which has altogether made my internship both a learning and growing experience. Through the exceptional business ethics exemplified by the team at Carson Kolb, I have learned that it takes commitment and diligence to succeed in any competitive industry.

During my internship, the tasks required of me consisted not of administrative tasks such as filing and scanning or delivering coffee-runs, but of actual responsibilities that directly affect the company. As an intern for the resource and technology department, I have been able to exercise the skills I acquired as a student under the School of Humanities namely research skills, critical analysis and proficient communication abilities. Thus, I am confident that the work ethics I have attained will be beneficial in helping me succeed in my future professional endeavors.

In pursuing an undergraduate degree in the field of European Studies through the School of Humanities at the University of California, Irvine, I was initially skeptical of the range of opportunities I would have to utilize my humanities-driven skill set in a non-academic setting.  After applying to the Humanities Internship Program and successfully receiving an internship at Carson Kolb Healthcare Group, a physician recruiting firm based in Dana Point, I was pleasantly surprised at the ease with which I was able to transfer my skills gained from my Humanities background to a fast paced and exciting business environment.  My previous experience working closely with physicians in a hospital setting undoubtedly contributed to my success, but it was my ability to think and analyze in creative and critical ways, as well as the help, mentoring, guidance, and welcoming nature of the extraordinary team at Carson Kolb that ultimately made my internship the perfect fit.

Through working at Carson Kolb I have gained a firsthand understanding of not only the physician recruiting industry, but also of all aspects of business practice from a company whose integrity and uncompromising sense of ethics have made my business education a far better experience than I could have ever imagined.  I would highly recommend the Humanities Internship Program to any Humanities major, both because of the high caliber of the program and its affiliated companies, and because of the unique opportunity it affords to truly pursue a career in the working world while still studying as an undergraduate at UCI.
