Windows XP and Language Setup

Note

This documentation is for Windows XP and works with the French, Italian, Spanish and Vietnamese languages. It will NOT work with Chinese, Japanese or Korean. For Chinese, read this document.

Windows XP Setup:

  1. From the Start Menu, go to 'Settings'.
  2. Click on 'Control Panel'.
  3. Double Click on the "Regional and Language Options" control panel.
  4. On the top there are three tabs. Click on "Languages"
  5. Click on the "Details" button.
  6. In the frame that says "Installed Services" click on the "Add" button. The "Add Input Language" dialog box pops up.
  7. Scroll down the language menu until you see the language of your choice and click. Then click 'OK'.
  8. When that box disappears, you are back to the original dialog box. Click OK as many times as necessary to get out of it.

How to use it with Eudora (for this example, assume you are installing the French Language)

  1. Go into Eudora.
  2. Create a new email
  3. Look at taskbar on the lower right hand corner of your screen. Look for a small dark blue box with the letters "EN" on it.
  4. click the box, then click on "FR" and make sure when you are done, the dark blue box says "FR".
  5. Go back to Eudora and start typing.
  6. French accents are where your numbers on top of your keyboard are. If you need a number, just press the Shift key.

You can now type in French using Eudora, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and a host of other programs...

Note: This assumes that during the initial install of Windows, the appropriate language packs were installed properly. If they were not, you must install them before the above instructions will work.
