What is the maximum amount of teaching quarters?
Teacing Assistants/Teaching Associates may be appointed for one quarter, two quarters, or a full academic year (3 quarters) and the appointments are self-terminating. Prior to advancement to candidacy for the Ph.D., the total length of service rendered by a graduate student in any one or any combination of the Teaching Assistant or Teaching Associate (Associate In) titles may not exceed four years (12 academic quarters), regardless of the actual appointment percentage. Following advancement to candidacy for the Ph.D., a graduate student may be appointed for an additional 6 quarters, up to a maximum of 18 quarters. A 19th quarter will not be approved.
