GMES & US VISA BAN

Many of us are no doubt concerned and even alarmed at the January 27, 2017 Executive Order signed by President Trump placing severe restrictions on the admission of nationals from at least 7 countries in the MENA region to the United States.

Dear students, colleagues, and friends of the Global Middle East Studies Program,

Many of us are no doubt concerned and even alarmed at the January 27, 2017 Executive Order signed by President Trump placing severe restrictions on the admission of nationals from at least 7 countries in the MENA region to the United States, including people already with visas and even green cards who are returning to the US for school. UCI has over 100 members of our community who fit this category. The faculty of GMES are in the process of drafting an official response to this order, which will be posted as soon as it is available.

In the meantime, if you are a student who feels in any way threatened or (potentially) affected by the Executive Order, please contact UCI's Office of Global Engagement: global@uci.edu or 949-824-9705.

For campus support with international emergencies that happen outside of the United States, contact UCI Public Safety: +1-949-824-5223, +1-949-824-5222.

If you need to speak with anyone at GMES about how these changes might affect your work or study with and/or through our program please don't hesitate to contact Mark LeVine at mlevine@uci.edu.
