From October 21 to 23, 2004, the UCI Dance Film Festival presents
an exciting program featuring Dance for the Camera works from
around the world. These films and videos merge choreographic
forms with cinematic techniques, filling the screen with the
emotional presence and kinetic power of dance. Choreography made
specifically for the camera embraces the potential of film and
video technology to transcend the ephemeral nature of dance performance,
creating new perspectives of bodies in motion.

Recent Work by Leading Artists
The UCI Dance Film Festival offers a sampling of recent dance
film and video works from leading contemporary artists. The festival program
incorporates ballet, modern and jazz dance styles, including explorations
of choreography for the camera, innovative works using animation
and experimental techniques, and documentaries reflecting a diverse
community of dance makers.
Student Competition
In addition to the main program, the festival includes a screening
of student dance video works, selected by jury from an international
call for submissions, with cash prizes awarded for exceptional
entries. The student competition affords Southern California audiences
a unique opportunity for a first look at new works by exceptional
emerging talent.
