The School
of Humanities is pleased to present the winning design of
our new building - Humanities Gateway. This exciting design
was created by the Design/Build Team of Fentress Bradburn
(architects) and Hansel Phelps (contractor). To be built on
the site just opposite the Humanities Instructional Building,
this will be the fifth building in the Humanities quad and
will include such elements as a 110-seat auditorium and a
film screening room in addition to a wonderful courtyard for
events and receptions.
The site is being prepared
this summer. The week after commencement three modular classroom
buildings were moved to another location. By the 1st of August
the other trailers had been demolished. Now that all of the
debris has been cleared away things will seem to move a bit
slower. We'll start to see construction equipment and activity
in September. During the Fall Quarter we will have the official
ground breaking ceremony. The building is scheduled for completion
in June 2009.
Preliminary drawings of the
new building are included here. Some things have already been
changed and the final concept drawings will be posted on this
site when they are received. Also, take time to look at the
pictures taken of the progress thus far. We will be photographing
the construction on a weekly basis and you will be able to
view those photographs from this site. We hope you will enjoy
this bird's-eye view.
