Courses:

NOTE: Students must take a placement test to enroll in Korean 1, Korean 2, and Korean 3. Please consult the department for the testing schedule.

Korean 1A-B-C: Fundamental Korean
This year-long introductory course uses a natural approach with emphasis on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The classes are conducted in Korean. Korean 1A-B-C and Korean S1AB-BC may not both be taken for credit.

Korean S1AB-BC: Fundamentals of Korean, Summer
This is an intensive summer program that covers the same material as Korean 1A-B-C during the regular academic year.

Korean 2A-B-C: Intermediate Korean
The second-year course is designed to develop writing and reading skills as well as communicative skills in authentic situations. Students also are introduced to aspects of Korean culture as related to lesson topics. The classes are conducted in Korean.

Korean 3A-B-C: Advanced Korean
In the third year, emphasis shifts to comprehension, grammar, and proficiency in reading, composition, and conversation, with additional instruction in the acquisition of Chinese characters. The classes are conducted in Korean.

Korean 101A-B-C: Fourth Year Korean
Students in the fourth year course have sufficient competence in Korean to begin to use the language to discuss issues in Korean literature and culture introduced through Korean-language materials. Stress continues to fall on comprehension, grammar, and proficiency, but analytic skills become increasingly important.

Korean 115: Korean Literature - Advanced Texts
Reading courses with this designation are for students with near-native fluency in written Korean. Texts vary from class to class as the topic varies. Prerequisite: Korean 101C or consent of the instructor.
