Date: Tuesday February 24th 2015 [Click here for the photos of the 2012 Contest]
Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00pm
Location: Humanities Gateway (HG) 1030
Objectives:
1. The Speech Contest provides Japanese language students the opportunity to think critically and express their thoughts clearly in public. It is our hope that students will be motivated to further pursue their learning of the Japanese language and culture through this project. With students moving onto graduate programs in Japanese, internships at Japanese corporations, teaching ESL in Japan, or volunteering to help those affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, students will serve as bridges between Japan and the United States.
2. Students will be exposed to the surrounding Japanese community, helping to build bonds among UCI and the community and establishing the campus as a resource for the development of Japanese language instruction. This project will bring community awareness to the Japanese Program at UCI and its ability to act as a resource to further Japanese language and culture studies throughout Orange County.
Student Participation:
We invited participants from students who are enrolled in a Japanese course at UCI. The following table indicates the basic guidelines. [Click here for the award winning speeches of the 2012 Contest]
