Reduced Requirements for Chinese Language and Literature Emphasis

News Details

The department’s faculty has voted to eliminate the requirement for Chinese 101 (Fourth Year Chinese) in the Chinese Language and Literature emphasis within the Chinese Studies major.  In place of the three quarters of Chinese 101, majors in the emphasis will need to take 6—rather then 4—elective courses on China. The change has been approved by the Humanities Executive Committee, and we anticipate approval by the Council on Educational Policy and the Academic Senate.  All current Chinese Studies majors in the Language and Literature major can choose to graduate with the revised requirements or can choose to meet the requirements at the time they declared the major.
