Dates: June 20- July 27, 2016
Time: MW, 1:00 - 3:50pm

Course description:
This course introduces Korean literature and film between the 1950s and the 2010s to help students understand Korean society and culture. After the liberation of 1945, the Korean government utilized the form of family in order to build a new nation. Students will explore different family forms throughout the Korean history with a critical point of view and examine whether or not the familization of the nation works. This course aims to improve students' skills in reading and analyzing cinematic and literary representations with an emphasis on historical context. Except for the textbooks, all readings will be provided in pdf format, and the films will be screened in class.
