Investing in People
The
School of Humanities offers nationally renowned instruction
and research that inspire cultural, historical, aesthetic,
and philosophical understanding. Supporting the work of our
students and faculty in our departments and programs is the
number one priority for the School.
Outstanding humanities
research depends not on highly expensive equipment, but rather
on the ability of talented scholars to consult original sources,
to work collaboratively with other scholars, and the dedicated
time to developing new theses in their respective fields.
Listed
below are suggested ways you can support this important work
through your gift or pledge. Thank you for your interest in
the Humanities!
Graduate Support
Graduate students are charged
with both mastering and innovating their fields through original
research that challenges assumptions and inspires new understandings.
Our graduate students also bring the most recent scholarship
to the undergraduate students they teach and mentor.
Outstanding
graduate students attract the best faculty members who, through
their research and instruction, continue to elevate UCI within
the ranks of the nation’s
best universities.

Faculty Support
An endowed chair is the
highest honor that can be bestowed on a faculty member. By
naming an endowed chair, a donor can instantly raise the national
recognition of the Department while also making a permanent
and important contribution to the School.
The endowed faculty fellowship will be used to draw the most
promising scholars and teachers to UC Irvine. The strength
of the School of Humanities attracts the very best scholars;
endowed research funds ensure that the School is able to compete
successfully with the packages offered by our peers.

Undergraduate Support
Endowed scholarships
allow the School to attract and retain the country’s
best undergraduate students. Seventy-eight percent of our undergraduate
students apply for financial aid to support their education.
Endowed scholarships help us meet this need by providing annual
support in perpetuity for our very best students.

The intellectual vitality of
our campus is due in large part to those lectures that bring
students, faculty, staff, and the community into interactions
and conversations with each other. Both endowed gifts of $350,000
and annual gifts of $15,000 allow a donor to name a lecture
series.

A new Humanities Building
is scheduled to open in 2010. Plans for the building are well
underway. With this new building will come much needed meeting
and office space for the School as well as innovative “smart” classrooms
that are equipped with the latest technological tools for instruction.
You can mark your support for the Humanities by naming one
of the building’s new offices, libraries, classrooms,
or auditoriums for yourself or someone you care about. Gifts
recognized in the building will be used to fund fellowships
and scholarships – the
School’s highest priorities.
