What CTI events are open to the public?
All CTI events advertised on our flyers or on our web site Calendar
are open to the public. These include our annual Wellek Library Lectures,
our Irvine Lectures in Critical Theory, and a variety of other lectures, workshops
and conferences, including activities co-sponsored with other UCI departments
and programs.
Where are CTI events held?
Most of our events are held in the Humanities or Social Sciences buildings,
particularly in the Humanities Instructional Building, and periodically in
the UCI Student Center. Locations of specific events are listed on our calendar.

Where do I park for CTI events?
Please contact the UCI Parking
and Transportation office for information regarding permit costs and locations
of parking lots. Generally, the most convenient parking for CTI events will
be found in the main UCI parking structure (near the student center, and central
to both Humanities and Social Sciences buildings) or the Mesa parking structure
(located near the Humanities buildings). Directions are available at UCI's

What accommodations for disabilities are available for CTI events?
Information concerning accommodations for disabilities is available from UCI's
Disability Services office, or ods@uci.edu.

What are ILCT?
The Irvine Lectures in Critical Theory, offically named in 1993-1994, are
presentations and discussions of work by both CTI members and invited guests
in relation to the CTIs current research project. These lectures are
held throughout the academic year, and many are published in the book resulting
from each research project in CTIs
Project Series. For information on individual lectures, please see our
Projects pages. The

Who are the speakers in the Irvine Lectures in Critical Theory series?
ILCT are given by both CTI members and invited speakers whose work is particularly
pertinent to the CTI's current research project. See our Projects

Many of the lectures are published in the book resulting from each research

What are the Wellek Library Lectures?
The Wellek Library Lecture series was inaugurated in 1981 as a tribute to
Professor René Wellek. Traditionally held in the Spring each year (2001
excepted), the CTI hosts distinguished lecturers in critical theory who present
a series of lectures over three days. Most of these Lectures are then published
in the CTI's Wellek Library Lecture
Series, and comprehensive bibliographies of lecturers prepared by UCI's
Dr. Eddie Yeghiayan, available on his Wellek
Library Lectures page. Please see our Wellek

Who are Wellek Library Lecturers?
The CTI invites prominent speakers who are shaping contemporary critical theory.
Among those distinguished critical theorist the has hosted recently are Gaytri
Spivak, Judith Butler, and Jean Baudrillard. A comprehensive llist of previous

What other activities open to te public does the CTI engage
in?
The CTI hosts, or co-sponsors a variety of lectures each academic years, many
by international speakers including our Research Fellows, in addition to various
conferences and special activities likeour upcoming Derrida Deleuze conference
(Spring 2002), our Bridging the Gaps Program (1995-1997) [future
link] and our participation in a German-American Collaborative Research Project

What is Bridging the Gaps?
Bridging the Gaps is CTI's intersegmental summer program that
ran from 1995 through 1997, gratefully funded by the NEH. More information
will be available on our Bridging the Gaps page [future link].
What is Multiculturalism, Transciplinarity, and Teaching
in an Intercultural Perspective?
This is the title of a German-American Collaborative Research Project [1994-1997]
involving scholars from the Humboldt U in Berlin, UC Irvine, UC, Santa Barbara,
and Georgetown U for which CTI's John
Carlos Rowe was principal U.S. investigator [and in which many CTI members
