The Department of Classics offers the following awards and scholarships for deserving students. Nominees are selected by faculty usually in the spring quarter of each year.

  • The Theodore Brunner and Luci Berkowitz Undergraduate Award in Classics is awarded to a meritorious undergraduate student in the Department of Classics.
  • The Theodore Brunner and Luci Berkowitz Graduate Award in Classics is awarded for excellence in academic performance on the graduate level.
National AwardsThe American Philological Association offers two awards to outstanding Classics students:
  • The LIONEL PEARSON FELLOWSHIP is awarded by the American Philological Association to an outstanding student majoring in Greek, Latin, Classics, or closely related fields at any American or Canadian college or university.
  • The APA Minority Scholarships Program awards scholarships to minority undergraduate students to further their preparation for graduate work in Classics by participating in summer programs in Italy, Greece, Egypt, etc., or language training at institutions in the US or Canada.
