Classical Computing at the CANE Annual Meeting

The CANE Committee on Classical Computing will sponsor a panel on Technology and the Teaching of Classics as part of the 1996 CANE Meeting to be held at the University of Rhode Island (March 22-23, 1996). The panel will include presentations by Marcia Jones, Ed Phinney (University of Massachussetts at Amherst) and Ray Starr (Wellesley College). In addition to the panel there will be hands-on workshops on instructional software and Internet resources.

Panel on Classics and the Internet at the CAMWS Annual Meeting

A panel on Classics and the Internet has been scheduled as part of the 1996 Annual CAMWS meeting to be held at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (April 10-14, 1996). The panel will include the following presentations:
"The Diotima Project: Past, Present, and Future" by Ross Scaife, University of Kentucky
"Daedalus Opifex on the Internet: Information Resources and the Classics Classroom" by Michael Arnush, Skidmore College
"Sacred Space in CyberSpace:Miami MOO and Multi-User Environments in the Classics Classroom" by Suzanne Bonefas, Miami University (Ohio), Amy Barr and Susan Wallrodt, University of Cincinnati
"Classics and Technology: Where do we go from here?" by Maria Pantelia, University of New Hampshire.

Digital Resources for the Humanities

A Conference on Digital Resources for the Humanities will be held at Somerville College, Oxford July 1-3 1996. The conference aims at bringing together archivists, librarians, scholars and publishers to discuss advances in computing that affect those working with the fundamental resources of humanities scholarship. The conference is being organised by the Continuing Professional Development Centre of the University of Oxford. ED-MEDIA 96

ED-MEDIA 96 is a World Conference on Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) with local assistance from Boston College, Boston University, Dartmouth College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Massachusetts, and Wellesley College. This year the conference will be held in Boston, Mass, June 17-22, 1996. Its topics include Architectures for Educational Technology Systems, Country-Specific Developments, Educational Animations, Evaluation of Multimedia/Hypermedia Systems, Improving Classroom Teaching, Interactive Learning Environments, Language Learning, Media in Education, Methodologies for Development of Educational Technology Systems, Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence, Software for Educational Research and Virtual Reality.

Perseus Course

The Taft Educational Center in Watertown, CT will be offering a course called "Perseus: Interactive Sources and Studies on Ancient Greece," taught by Wendy E. Owens, Classical Technology Systems, Inc. The course will provide hands-on instructions in the use of the Perseus 2.0 software and strategies for developing technology-integrating curriculum for Perseus and other academic databases. It will culminate in the development of curriculum and assignments for the use of Perseus in the classroom. The curriculum resulting from this course will be published and made available to other educators. The course dates will be June 30-July 5, 1996. Each day will be divided into four workshop sessions. Course participants can earn 2.5 continuing education credits through the Connecticut State Department of Education or Graduate Credit and grades through the University of Hartford. These credits transfer into Massachusetts PDP's. Information on registration, tuition and charges, child care and credits can be found in the Taft Educational Center catalog.
