*This list is not meant to be exhaustive, and in general covers programs funding all humanistic disciplines.  Most deadlines are in the fall.

 PORTABLE 

American Council of Learned Societies      http://www.acls.org

  • 60 fellowships (20/prof. rank) in central ACLS program; $30,000-$60,000
  • Ryskamp program for advanced asst. profs): 10-12 fellowships, $80k total funds
  • Early Career fellowships for dissertations and recent PhDs: 85 fellowships, appr. $30k
  • other fellowships available for Southeast European Studies (post-PhD and dissertation), dissertations in American Art, China programs, digital projects

  • appr. 20 sabbatical fellowships in humanities and social sciences, $30,000-$40,000
  • for mid-career faculty

  • for advanced professionals in the natural and social sciences, humanities, and creative arts (except the performing arts)

  • other types of grants: collaborative research, institutional grants and special institutional direction grants, teaching and curriculum development grants, summer stipends, summer seminars

 RESIDENTIAL

  • 30 residential Rome Prize fellowships, 15 to emerging artists and 15 to scholars
  • Pre-and post-doc, in ancient, medieval, Renaissance and early modern studies, or in modern Italian studies

  • long- and short-term residential fellowships, pre- and post-doc

  • for work using AAS collections: American history, literature, culture to 1876

  • 20-30 short-term fellowships, $2000/month, for pre- and post-doc
  • projects must utilize Folger collections

  • appr. 30 residential fellowships, short- and long-term
  • up to $75,000 ($22,000 for post-docs within 5 years of degree, $18,000 for pre-docs)
  • for  scholars in the arts, humanities, and social sciences whose projects engage the visual; projects must focus on Getty’s annual theme
  • other types of fellowships: curatorial, education and professional development

  • Short-term residential fellowships at Gilder Lehrman Instit. for Amer. History, $1,500-$4,000/month (diss research ok)

  • appr. 12  long-term residential fellowships, up to $40,000
  • several short-term residential fellowships; stipends vary
  • most for faculty, some for PhD candidates
  • projects must utilize the Newberry’s collections (not contemporary)

  • 40-60 residential fellowships, up to $60,000
  • individual and collaborative awards
  • open to humanities, science, and social science scholars holding the PhD and to creative artists and writers

  • for PhDs within 10 years of degree, working in Italian Renaissance studies
