Works-In-Progress with Dr. Kristen Monroe

 Center for Medical Humanities     Nov 18 2015 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM HG1030

In her talk at the University Club on November 18, 2015, Political Science Professor Dr. Kristen Monroe discussed the results of a Medical Humanities Initiative-sponsored course that asked students to interview an elder as a way to overcome discrimination. Half of this lecture dealt with how her course used age as a discriminator and attempted to teach empathy and tolerance through the lens of aging. She also interwove her talk with anecdotes about her relationship with her own mother. This lecture, titled “Trudi: Aging and the Limits of Empathy for Human Compassion,” was a part of the Medical Humanities Initiative’s Works-in-Progress series, where faculty from around campus have the opportunity to showcase their research projects dealing with the intersection of medicine, arts, and the humanities to an interdisciplinary audience.
