Works-In-Progress with Dr. Michael Montoya

Center for Medical Humanities     Apr 26 2016 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Student Center

In his talk to over 60 students and faculty in the UCI Student Center on April 20, Anthropology Professor Dr. Michael Montoya explored the often unexamined relational aspects of engaging across social boundaries of all kinds. Using a slide show which can be found here and drawing upon decades of work in community contexts, and in one long term engagement in particular, Montoya shared what he learned as a medical anthropologist about working with people to solve complex problems of health and well-being. This lecture titled “Equity, Knowledge, and Health: Community Engagement and the Art of Relational Politics” was a part of the Medical Humanities Initiative’s Works-in-Progress series, where faculty from around campus have the opportunity to showcase their research projects dealing with the intersection of medicine, arts, and the humanities to an interdisciplinary audience.
