Crossing the Pacific: Chinese Scholars on Studying China

East Asian Studies     May 20 2017 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM UCI School of Law, Room 3750

The UCI Long US-China Institute Presents:

The UC system is home to some of the most cutting-edge research on Chinese politics, society, and history. Who are the people conducting this research, and what are the stories behind their scholarship?

On Saturday, May 20th, join the UCI Long Institute for an exploration into these questions. Crossing the Pacific will bring together twelve esteemed scholars of Chinese descent who each made the critical decision to leave China in order to pursue graduate degrees in the United States. As experts in Chinese politics, society, culture, and history at top universities across California, they will speak on issues related to their educational experiences and personal backgrounds, as well as the passions that ignited their scholarship in the first place.

Join us in getting to know the people behind the research, and learn more about the complex relationship between identity, scholarship, and memory in contemporary China studies.

Seating is limited, so please register in advance at http://bit.ly/2pokHXh
