Shakespeare and the Visual Arts

New Swan Shakespeare Center     Apr 27 2017 | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Laguna Art Museum

UCI professor Julia Lupton joins Laguna Art Museum director Malcolm Warner for a public discussion, with illustrations and dramatic readings by Bri McWhorter.

What kinds of images inspired Shakespeare in composing and staging his plays? And how have artists responded to the vivid tableau depicted in Shakespeare’s plays? Wall hangings, wood cuts, paintings, and posters are among the visual riches that illuminate the dramas of Shakespeare. This illustrated conversation will include dramatic readings from King Lear, Hamlet, and Twelfth Night by Bri McWhorter, who has performed with UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Festival.

Co-sponsored by Illuminations and the UCI Shakespeare Center.
