Protesting Consciously: Legal Rights of Students and Instructors
(A Radical Pedagogy Workshop)

Featuring

Seth Davis, UCI School of Law
Sean Garcia-Leys, Esq., Legal Fellow, Urban Peace Institute
Brendan Hamme, Orange County ACLU

The first Radical Pedagogy workshop will bring Brendan Hamme (OC ACLU), Sean Garcia-Leys (Urban Peace Institute), and Seth Davis (UCI Law School) to share their knowledge and expertise about protest and resistance. In the coming days and weeks, many faculty and teaching assistants/graduate students will participate, in one way or another, in the protests that are planned for Trump’s inauguration. Whether we serve as witnesses or participants, it is important that we understand our own rights and those of our students, and that we are able to recognize which actions fall under the rubric of legal forms of dissent, and which do not. This workshop will provide practical information about dissent and the law, mindful of University of California policies regarding faculty and instructor responsibilities regarding political and social justice activity in class, office hours, and on campus property.
