Screening begins at 6 p.m.

A romantic comedy infused with telenovela dramatics gives way to a satire of political corruption and social self-criticism in Mexico City at the turn of the millennium.

Maricarmen de Lara is current director of the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC) at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and recently received recognition from UAM for her thirty years of media production, from documentaries as a member of the Cine Mujer Collective in Mexico City to this, her first feature film, as well as educational documentaries on women’s health.  One of the leading women directors of the “second generation,” Ms. De Lara will speak on a range of topics, from women’s filmmaking to film and media studies to audiovisual production for community use.

Co-sponsored by the Departments of Comparative Literature, Film and Media Studies, and Spanish and Portuguese, Illuminations, and the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografia (IMCINE).
