Anne Walthall, professor of Japanese history, has received the 2011-12 Faculty Mentorship Award from the UC Irvine Emeriti Association.
Professor Walthall is the author of
Recreating Japanese Men (2011),
The Weak Body of a Useless Woman: Matsuo Taseko and the Meiji Restoration (1998), in addition to numerous other books and articles. She is a former director of both the University of California EAP program at Meijigakuin University and the University of California Study Center in Tokyo. Walthall joined the faculty at UCI in 1991.
