| | Look for the Institutional Collections link in ARTstor (www.artstor.org) and you will see four collections built specifically for UC. For the first time, campuses can collaboratively develop image collections and share them across the University of California system, reducing redundant effort and providing a convenient, single point of access to the essential images faculty and students need for research, teaching, and learning. The California Digital Library has joined forces with UC Visual Resources Collections (VRC) to build UC Shared Images, an initiative allowing individual campuses to contribute digital images and descriptive data for distribution UC-wide via the ARTstor hosting platform. Berkeley's substantial contribution has just gone live in ARTstor with over 30,000 images of art and architecture requested by faculty for classroom teaching and representing the research interests of VRC patrons eager to share their fieldwork. Santa Cruz provided the first of these institutional collections with a selection of African art. Santa Barbara contributed 18th and 19th century British and German art. Irvine is putting the finishing touches on American, Classical, Contemporary, and Japanese art which will be accessible before the end of the calendar year. Expect to see these start-up image collections expand and more UC campuses to join in as this coordinated resource grows to include more UC partners.
