From stress in the workplace to a potential threat of violence, UCI's Management Response Team (MRT) is available to help find solutions.
Headed by the chief of police and representatives from several UCI health and safety_related offices, the MRT works with the campus community to prevent and respond to violence on campus. Members also work together to assess each issue on a case-by-case basis, holding meetings whenever required - sometimes on a moment's notice.
The collaborative effort has been very successful, says Kathy Hooven, former chief of the UCI Police Department. "We found that when we brought together everyone who had knowledge of a particular situation, we were able to get a full picture; as a result, the problems were handled more easily, and no one person felt that they had to have all the answers," she says.
In some cases, outside sources also may be brought in to help, adds Hooven. If there is a problem with a student, for example, a representative from the Office of the Dean of Students might be asked to sit in on an MRT meeting.
The team is comprised of the following resources, which are available to any employee facing difficulties with students, staff, faculty or members of the community:
The UCI Police Department. Any immediate concern for an individual's health or safety, or urgent threats or acts of violence should be reported to the UCI police.
